Yuyuan’s Historical Gardens are one of the oldest areas of Shanghai, an oasis of peace in a vibrant, modern metropolis. The contrast with the technological, eye-rolling skyscrapers is striking, yet this contrast is what makes this city unique: the gardens are a connection with the past that shall not be ignored, especially for representing an outstanding testimony of the Chinese concept of men-and-nature harmony.
